    Biographical history

Freeman Clowery was born in 1923 to parents Mabel Wright (1897-1974) and James Clowery (1890-1948). He had four siblings, Donald, Brenda, Elizabeth, and James. When he was fifteen years old, Freeman met his eventual wife, Frances Martin (1922-1989), at a rally of Guides and Scouts. The couple got married seven years later in 1948. Freeman and Frances had two children, Grant (1950 - ) and Wayne (1950 - ). In 1952, Freeman began to work at National Thread as the Office Manager and later the Manager of Credit Service. After the closing of National Thread, Freeman worked at the Bank of Montreal as the Head Archivist, a position he remained in for twenty-five years. In his down time, Clowerly would research history, and was a member of the Lennoxville-Ascot Historical Research Society and the Sherbrooke Research Society. He and Frances were both ardent birdwatchers, and frequently traveled across Eastern Canada and Arizona on birdwatching trips. After the death of Frances Martin in 1989, Freeman married Velma Lavallee Wright (1922-2022). Freeman Clowery died in 2018 and is buried with his first wife, Frances, at Elmwood Cemetery, Sherbrooke, Que.
