The fonds consists of primary and secondary source documents relating to the Nichols family of Potton Townships. They include documents, photographs and diaries of Joshua Levi Nichols, his wife Jemima Carter and their son George Nichols.

The series consists of photographs relating to the Nichols family. It includes a photo album probably owned by Jemima Carter, wife of Joshua Levi Nichols, containing mostly Nichols and Carter family members.

The series consists of diaries written by Joshua Levi Nichols during his adult life. The diaries were written in leather-bound books from 1859 to 1876, 1880 and 1881, and on loose sheets from 1903 to 1915. In 1973, Howard Eldridge completed the transcript of the day-to-day inscriptions of each diary, except the one from 1880 and the loose sheets. His widowed wife gave the transcriptions to the BCHS in 1981.
