The series contains source material on work, education, sickness, economic challenges and family life from 1889 to 1970. It consists of correspondence from various individuals who were close to the Baldwins or Mays but who were not related to them or the family connection is distant. Alfred T. Jones

The subseries contains information on the Revered Alfred T. Jones from 1927 to 1936 in Stanstead and Magog, QC, and in Melbourne, Florida. It consists of correspondence and postcards sent by A.T. Jones to Harold Ferrin Baldwin and W.K. Baldwin. The correspondence mainly concerns United Church affairs as well as some comments about A.T. Jones' everyday life.

Correspondence received

The file contains primary source information on the personal life of Mead H. Baldwin from about 1906 to 1921. It consists of letters and postcards received by Mead from friends and family. Correspondents include: George Carpenter, Leonard D. Turner, Catherine Cooke, J.A. Follett, Wright M. Parsons, Mr. and Mrs. William N. Liev Jr., and Ina G. Getty, among others.

The fonds consists of primary and secondary source documents relating to the Esty family of Mansonville. It includes legal documents pertaining to Elwin James Esty (1843-1909), and documents about Farrand Chauncey Esty (1863-1943), son of Franklin James Esty and Mary Eliza Elkins, including his diaries.

Diaries

The series consists of the collection of diaries written by Farrand Chauncey Esty, beginning when he was 10 years old at the McKay Institution in Montreal. After an intense fever when he was 3 years old, he became deaf-mute and his parents sent him in Montreal to learn the "fingers language".

The series consists of primary and secondary source documents relating to members of the Esty family. It includes legal documents about the installation of Elwin James Esty, from Eastman to East Bolton, and documents about Farrand Chauncey Esty, who spent all his life in Mansonville.

The fonds consists of primary source documents relating to the Nash family of Brattleboro, Vt, who came to live in Brome County. It includes documents relating to Ephraim Nash (1754-1816), married to Hannah Wells; their son Alfred Nash (1793-1861), married to Lucinda Knowlton Willard (daughter of Samuel Willard); and their son Ephraim Nash (1820-1851), married to Harriet Parker. Ephraim Nash and his grandson were official surveyor for the East Farnham region.

Photographs and sketch

The series consists of photographs relating to the Mitchell family, including a Mitchell-Hagan family photo album and an anonymus sketch of Thomas Mitchell.

The series consists of primary and secondary source documents relating to the Mitchell family, including correspondence mentioning the George Mitchell and Jane Armstrong descendants, a notebook written by Homer Acton Mitchell, and transactions deeds relating to pieces of lands in Brome owned by Malcolm M. Mitchell, including lot 749 (Range 7, lot 6) on which there was a butter and cheese factory.

The fonds consists of primary and secondary source documents relating to the Nichols family of Potton Townships. They include documents, photographs and diaries of Joshua Levi Nichols, his wife Jemima Carter and their son George Nichols.

The series consists of photographs relating to the Nichols family. It includes a photo album probably owned by Jemima Carter, wife of Joshua Levi Nichols, containing mostly Nichols and Carter family members.

Royal Visit

Item is a photograph of a royal visit by the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York (future King George V and Queen Mary) at the Sherbrooke Courthouse, with a large crowd in front of the courthouse.

Ice jam

Item is a photograph of mounds of ice on the street, left from the St. Francis River flood in Bromptonville in 1948. A bulldozer is visible, pushing the ice blocks from the main street to open the road.

Diaries

The series consists of diaries written by Joshua Levi Nichols during his adult life. The diaries were written in leather-bound books from 1859 to 1876, 1880 and 1881, and on loose sheets from 1903 to 1915. In 1973, Howard Eldridge completed the transcript of the day-to-day inscriptions of each diary, except the one from 1880 and the loose sheets. His widowed wife gave the transcriptions to the BCHS in 1981.

Textual records

The series consists of primary and secondary source documents relating to the Nichols family of Potton Townships. They are mostly documents found in the diaries of Joshua Levi Nichols and include correspondence, bills, invoices and information about the Currier & Ives images that he sold as a peddler. There is also a biography of Joshua Nichols written by Howard Eldridge, including a transcription of a testimonial written by George Nichols, and an article about Currier & Ives.

Promotional documents

The file contains primary source documents that were inserted but not glued in the binder (D2), consisting of promotional documents about membership subscriptions, signed by Edgar T. Capel, General Superintendent.

The file contains primary souce documents relating to the administrative and communication department of the Knowlton Conference Association, including correspondence, annual reports, commercial pamphlets announcing and promoting regular and special activities. The binder was probably kept by Edgar T. Capel, who was the General Superintendent.

It includes a list of trivia facts about the commercial complex and a hand drawn map of all the buildings, with references to the photographs file (S2), both of them written by Hugh M. Vittie, who spent summers over there during the 1930 and 1940.

Photographs

The series consists of photographs relating to the Knowlton Grove Hotel. Most of the photographs were probably taken by Hugh McVittie and give a detailed point of view of the different installations along with the staff and people who attended the hotel. Some of the people that are identified include the Rev. and Mrs. C.R. Bell, Mrs. Vesta Creese and Rev. J.W. Patterson.

The fonds consists of a souvenir folder created by Hugh McVittie of Ridgetown, Ontario, who came to stay at the Knowlton Grove Hotel during his childhood between 1930 and 1940. It contains information about the hotel, a hand drawn map of the different buildings and many photographs taken during that period. The Knowlton Grove Hotel used to be operated by the Knowlton Conference Association.
