Sans titreBishop's jacket and LP recording of The Grate Escape (Carnival 1965).
The annual Bishop’s Winter Carnival of 1964 was highlighted by the musical revue "The Grate Escape", written by four students: John Piper ’65, Douglas Tees ’65, Ace Henderson ’65 and John Martland ’64. “Drink a Toast to Bishop’s University" was the grand finale. A recording of the revue was made with a local orchestra, and over the years the exuberant finale song has gained popularity and become known as the Bishop's School Song, or Raise a Toast. It is sung regularly at football games and other university events. In 1995 Douglas Tees heard the song at a football game for the first time since 1964, after which he reflected, "I was delighted to discover what our song had become.”
