        History

        Professor Alan Watkin Jones was Associate Professor and Chairman of the Graduate School of Education at Bishop's Unversity from 1969 until 1985. He was a loyal and highly respected teacher. Born in Barking, Essex, U.K. in 1933 Alan Jones went on to receive a B.A. in 1954 and Diploma in Education in 1955 from the University of Sheffield. In 1959 he received a Diploma in Theology from the University of London and an M.Ed in 1968 from the University of Durham. After serving as an Instructor R.A.E.C. with the British Army (National Service) from 1955 to 1957, he taught school at Remo Secondary School, Sagamu, Nigeria until 1961. He then taught at, and was Principal of, Centennial Secondary School, Mattru Jong, Sierra Leone until 1966. Professor Jones came to Bishop's in 1969. While at Bishop's he served as Warden of St. Mark's Chapel. He died on November 30, 1985.
