    Biographical history

Festival Lennoxville was launched in 1972 by the St. Francis Theatre Company, founded in January of that year, by professors David Rittenhouse and Bill Davis of the Bishop's University Drama Department. St. Francis Theatre Company's mandate was specifically to stage a summer theatre festival. Management was by the Board of Directors, various committees, the Artistic Director, and the Administrative Director. From 1972 to 1982, Festival Lennoxville presented over 30 plays by 25 Canadian playwrights at Bishop's University Centennial Theatre. Although over the years the Festival received funding from Bishop's, the Canada Council, the Secretary of State, the municipality of Lennoxville, and private organizations, in 1982 it was forced, by lack of financial resources, to cease operating.
